Save the Beaver Run Alligator! PDF Print E-mail

URGENT ALERT:
Save the Beaver Run Alligator!

Municipal Authorities Blocking Rescue Attempts &
Leaving Abandoned “Pet” Alligator to Die in Local Reservoir!

***Action Needed Immediately! Please Forward Widely!***

Recent news stories are reporting that a 1-2 year old, approximately 5 foot long alligator, has turned up in the Beaver Run reservoir in Westmoreland County. The alligator was likely victim to having been someone’s former “pet” who has now been abandoned and dumped in the reservoir. The alligator, native to warm and tropical climates, is not likely to survive long when the cold weather hits and the animal will freeze to death.

Instead of taking action to save the alligator’s life, the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County, which owns the Beaver Run reservoir, is not only planning to leave the alligator to just die in the reservoir, but is also going so far as to block any rescue attempts to save the alligator!

Despite this alligator's support throughout the tax-paying community and even a facebook page, the animal remains in certain doom unless Chris Kerr, Resident Manager of the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County, grants access to the alligator for humane and safely qualified rescue attempts.

One local woman, Kendra Fouse of Lower Burrell, is leading the effort to save the alligator, and even found a wildlife sanctuary, Everglades Outpost Wildlife Refuge and Rescue in Homestead, Florida, that is willing to take the alligator in permanently if he can be saved, but the municipal authorities will not let anyone on their reservoir property.

"The authority at this time has no interest in attempting to save the alligator."                           - Chris Kerr, October 4th, 2011

Please contact Chris Kerr, Manager at the Municipal Authority, and tell him it is cruel to leave an abandoned animal alone to die and urge him to do the right thing and allow qualified rescue workers onto the reservoir property to attempt to save the alligator's life.
