In our last Lynx e-newsletter we said that we are planning a local fur campaign and that we are starting it off by holding some fur protests over the winter. Our first scheduled protest will be this Saturday, December 13th, from 1:00-2:00 PM, outside Canadian Fur Company downtown.

We will be educating the public about the extreme cruelty and torture animals killed for fur are subjected to, whether in a trap or on a fur farm. Over the years we have seen an increase in the number of people wearing fur again, particularly fur trim, and this is just unacceptable. We especially want to emphasize to the public the wrong of wearing fur trim. Many people know the cruelty that goes into a fur coat, but what they often don’t realize is that fur trim causes just as much suffering. Fur trimmed products are now a half-billion dollar industry. What’s more scary is that the number of animals killed for fur trim is expected to overtake the number of animals killed for full-fur garments. Because the trim trade doesn't place as much emphasis on pelt quality, color, and uniformity, the quality of care given to furbearers is diminished.
